ABOUT US
Introduction.
Roadford Lake Sailing Club is a small but very friendly club who have
the priviledge of sailing on the largest inland body of water in the
South West. The lake itself is managed by SW Lakes Trust, who run the Watersports Centre, provide safety boat cover and
manage the dinghy park. While the Watersports Centre introduce many
people to sailing, RLSC organise the only (regular) racing on the lake.
We race every Sunday throughout the year (except when the Lake is
closed over Christmas). Our calender of races can be found on the Club Racing page.
The Club.
As the Watersports Centre run the dinghy park and safety boat cover,
RLSC have very few financial overheads and consequently the membership
fee for the Club is just £25 per year for adults and half that for
students. To encourage families and youth sailing the Club waive the
membership fee for the children of members. This also reflects the fact
that the youth section of the Club is very successful and most of them
are now members of zone and development squads and consequently
reguarly away from the Club, competing. - In doing so they represent
the Club but are unable to compete in our club racing and therefore it
seems very mean to charge them a membership fee!

The People.
Like every club, RLSC has a group of regular members who tend to be
racing every weekend and other members who can make it to the lake less
often.
The Club have a Flickr account where we try to post as many
pictures as possible of events at the Lake. We have started a set of
photos dedicated to introducing some of the Club members, which will be
added to as soon as we can get more of them in front of a camera!!!
Committee Members information can be found on the Contact Us page.
All members are encouraged to join the Club Forum,
where anything which needs communicating or discussing is posted.
We also have our logo registered with a clothing manufacturer, who is
happy to add the logo to their wide range of different styles, so if
you fancy a personalised RLSC t-shirt or top, etc Oceanworld is the place to go!
Racing.
Every Sunday we have PY handicap racing (everyone welcome!) usually
arranged as one race in the late morning and one in the afternoon
(leisurely lunch in between). Each weekend is usually part of a 4
weekend long series (3 weekends to count). The Club have several active
Club Fleets although
we all race together.
The main exceptions to our usual schedule of racing are when we are
hosting an Open Event. Only in the last
few years have the Club been actively hosting Open Events and the
success of these (and our stunning location) have meant that for
several fleets, Roadford is already a permanent fixture on their racing
calender. The Finn class particularly like the venue and have brought
two major championships to the lake in the last couple of seasons.
The Club also have close links to the CVRDA and
actively encourage the participation of older craft (whether vintage,
or just plain "old"). To encourage these craft to enter club races, we
regularly amend PY handicaps for classes where rule changes have made
boats uncompetitive against their current handicap.
The Location.
The full postal address is: Goodacre
Farm, Broadwoodwidger, Lifton,
Devon PL16 0JL.
For those of you desperate to see the Watersports Centre, Google Street
View does have photos all the way down into the centre.

The Club and lake are just off
the
A30 between Okehampton and
Launceston in Devon. So, whether approaching from the East or West look
out for the brown signs for Roadford Lake and exit the A30 at
Broadwoodwidger. (Both of the slip roads off the A30 are quite short
and have sharp bends - towing vehicles are advised to slow down for
them!)
From the East...
If coming from the East, turn right
at the first junction after the A30
exit and follow the road for about 3 miles. You will see the dam with
the lake on your right hand side. Go over the dam and take the first
right into the Watersports Centre.
From the West...
If coming from the West turn left at
the first junction after the A30
and follow the road for about 3 miles. You will see the dam with the
lake on your right hand side. Go over the dam and take the first right
into the Watersports Centre.
